I was outside with my 3 year old sister a few months ago and we were playing in the backyard. We have a clubhouse kind of thing that the kids play on. There’s this ladder to climb up to the top so you can go down the slide. Well, I was being cautious and was standing behind her as she was climbing up. But she saw me there and said, “Don’t hold me. Don’t hold me.” She wanted to climb all by herself. And I knew that if she fell, I would be there to catch her. But what would’ve happened if she fell and I wasn’t there? She most likely would’ve gotten seriously injured. She doesn’t understand the consequences if she falls and she doesn’t have the instincts either. A 3 year old doesn’t know to stick out your hands to try to break your fall. She would’ve fallen and hit her head most likely. And I feel like that’s how we are with God sometimes. We are climbing up this ladder in life and God says, “I’m right behind you.” But we say, “No God. I don’t need your help. Don’t hold me.” Sometimes we make it up the ladder all by ourselves with success. But sometimes, we fall down and get “hurt.” And sometimes, God can’t break our fall. We pushed Him away. And there’s a lesson to be learned here. When climbing a ladder in life, let God help you. Let God hold you. Let Him break your fall.
